Carol L. Mitchell, Ph.D., is the Deputy Project Director of CINCIA's Alliance for Science and Ecosystem Recovery (ACIERTA) Project, a partnership between CINCIA, Wake Forest University, and the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

Carol is trained as a tropical ecologist, with a bachelor's degree in Zoology from the University of California at Davis, and master's and doctorate degrees in Biology from Princeton University. From 2005 to 2018, Carol served as Deputy Director of the South Florida Natural Resources Center at the U.S. National Park Service's Everglades National Park in Florida, USA. She previously worked for 20 years in the Peruvian Amazon in tropical rainforest conservation, leading technical teams at the World Wildlife Fund, Duke University, and Conservation International. She has more than 30 years of experience in science for conservation in Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, Peru, India, the Philippines, and Bangladesh.

She is currently a Fellow at the Center for Energy, Environment, and Sustainability at Wake Forest University.
